While it seems there is perpetual confusion around which specific exercise, food or supplement is actually good for you and which is not, there is one thought that is always consistent. We must eat good foods and exercise daily to maintain some semblance of health.
It is a known fact any exercise or activity that helps your heart pump more reduces your stress and improves your health. Persistent high stress levels have significant negative effects on your health making you more susceptible to the colds, flus and viruses that spread around your everyday environment. People suffering from stress also report more intestinal issues, they get tired more easily and generally have trouble sleeping.
Lack of exercise also increases your risk for many other diseases. Obesity is associated with a number of chronic diseases including an increased risk for Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. We are even seeing elevated cholesterol and high blood pressure in our children.
When we exercise, our body releases endorphins, our body’s natural “feel good” joy juice. These endorphins help reduce the stress and lift our mood so we feel more peaceful and happy. We sleep better, feel better about ourselves and we look better to others. Exercise helps us age better, naturally. For women (and men) studies have found that weight-bearing exercises which include yoga, Zumba and fitness keep our bones stronger longer.
A balanced life approach to fitness includes enough exercise to help the heart grow stronger, help your muscles stay stronger and keep your flexibility for as long as possible.
